We moved into our new home about 2 weekS ago! Some days I feel like we have accomplished so much, & others I feel like I'm sitting in the same chaos I was 14 days ago. (haha)
To be honest, we have tackled lots of projects all around the house and I think because they're so spread out and somewhat random (that's my ADD kicking in), it can feel like a mess. But I wanted to take y'all along the first 'almost' completed project! (that was accomplished this past weekend). If you guys follow along with us on Instagram you may have seen our exterior plans for the #pipermovedtothecoast project >> aka our house. hehe
Here's a little preview of the design plans that I originally dreamed up for our front porch and exterior:
Okay, so these plans altered a little.. but we got started on the vision!
Here is the before pics of the front porch;
Although the red was unique and fun - we wanted to give the exterior and entrance a more classic and traditional look.
So, we picked a classic black paint for the front door! We decided to do black shutters as well, but we wait for those to arrive! (patience y'all! That's what I'm learning with a lot of spaces in our home.. it takes patience to get everything in and installed :))
EXTERIOR PAINT FOR DOOR/TRIM - CLASSIC BLACK
My dad so graciously opted into painting for us! My parents came down for the weekend for my mom's birthday & for helping around the house with unpacking and boy was it a HUGE help! dad finished up the door and the exterior accents, as Kevin worked in the yard and I tackled boxes inside! I went with him to pick out a few of the details for the porch and exterior and he brought the plans to life! I chose traditional numbers for the front door (FINALLY TOOK OFF THE AWFUL ONES THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY THERE - IN CURLZ FONT AND COMPLETELY RUSTED OVER FROM THE SALT AIR!). WE WENT WITH BRASS NUMBERS AND A BIGGER SIZE TO REALLY STAND OUT AGAINST THE BLACK!
NEXT, CAME THE SELECTION OF THE greenery FOR THE FRONT PORCH! I originally THOUGHT I WANTED TO HANG FERNS (4 OR SO) OVER THE RAILING.. BUT THE MORE I THOUGHT ABOUT IT, THE MORE I shIED AWAY FROM THE IDEA BECAUSE I FELT IT MAY BECOME TOO BUSY.. TOO QUICK. I WANTED TO KEEP IT SIMPLE OUT THERE & REFRESHING! SO, AGAIN, DAD AND I WENT TO lowe'S AND PLAYED AROUND WITH A FEW IDEAS (PLANTERS AND PLANTS).
THE pink hydrangea! IT WAS PERFECT! AGAIN THE BLACK DOOR AND IN THE PERFECT PLANTER! I WAS SO HAPPY WITH HOW THESE TURNED OUT! NOW, PROJECT KEEP THEM ALIVE IS IN FULL FORCE! THEY ALWAYS LOOK HOT NOW AND THIRSTY! SO, I'VE BEEN DRENCHING THEM IN WATER THE PAST WEEK OR SO IN HOPES THEY KEEP SOME COLOR :(
NOW, FOR THE FRONT DOOR MAT - AGAIN, I ORIGINALLY THINK I WANTED TO GO MORE BUSY AND FUN, BUT DECIDED AGAINST THAT WHEN WE WANTED TO MAKE IT fEEL MORE TRADITIONAL WITH POPS OF COASTAL! I FOUND THE PERFECT ONE! I searcHED high AND LOW AND EVERYTHING FELT TOO SMALL OR TOO COLORFUL! I wanted SOMETHING THAT FELT WARM, INVITING, GROWN-UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME, FRESH AND 'us'.
Found this one at lowe's..
(I loved mixing the finishes on the porch! The brass, the black, the bronzed hardware and pots for the plants) it makes everything feel more layered and 'at home'.. the same finishes everywhere is b o r i n g :)
now, we wait on the shutters to arrive! I will also be including our rockers, lighting & pillows in PART 2 OF OUR EXTERIOR PROJECT! I'M SO GLAD YOU CHOSE TO FOLLOW ALONG WITH US ON THIS journey OF SETTLING IN!
